A Fair Food System Can’t Wait: FarmSTAND’s Statement Following the 2024 Election

At FarmSTAND, we’re not just taking on corporations; we’re fighting alongside every worker, every community, and every farmer under threat from this new administration. As policies shift to further favor corporate power over the public good, we’re committed to fighting the battles that matter most. When we look to those who came before us — elders who faced similar struggles and built power in the face of adversity — we know that bold, long-term action can defy the odds and create real change.

Every day, we work with communities who don’t wait for permission to create a fairer, stronger food system — one that includes everyone, from consumers to farmers to food chain workers. They believe, as we do, that people everywhere want to replace the corporate food system, even if so many mistakenly believe that a president devoted to wealth inequality, white supremacy, and environmental destruction can ever deliver that to them. With FarmSTAND’s unique power as a collective of lawyers, organizers, and communicators, we’re ready to fight for our communities and take on what’s ahead.

In the face of the incoming administration’s agenda, which prioritizes profits over people, our mission is more urgent than ever. Our staff has reviewed Project 2025, and we’re prepared. We have been fighting alongside food and farm workers to defend the state and federal laws that guarantee their rights to access legal representation, medical care, and union support. Now, as we prepare for a coordinated rollback of these protections, we’re countering each move with targeted legal strategies to hold this administration accountable. Our team isn’t backing down; we’re intensifying our efforts to support those at greatest risk in this new landscape.

We remain steadfast in our commitment to urgently fighting climate change, even as we anticipate the dismantling of essential regulatory protections and federal courts that will be even more deferential to corporate power than ever. We have plans to get creative and go on the offensive, not wait for the four-year clock to run out.

We will follow in the tradition of social movements throughout history that have taught us that the work of building a better world is always ongoing. And we follow the lead of the communities who have always had to create a path forward for themselves in opposition to Big Ag’s political influence. Together, we’ll continue to fight for a fair food system and protect the people in it.
