Industrial aquaculture poses many of the same threats as industrial land-based agriculture does to clean water and healthy ecosystems. For more than three years, Pacific Bio Products, owned by seafood giant Pacific Seafood, has illegally polluted the Columbia River by discharging pollutants like chlorine and has failed to properly monitor and report their discharges.
Pacific Bio Products violated their Oregon Department of Environmental Quality permit more than 6,180 times in the three years prior to this suit. Plaintiffs Center for Food Safety and Northwest Environmental Defense Center bring this Clean Water Act action to demand accountability and protect the precious Columbia River for the communities and ecosystems that depend on it.
